How we verify

California Daycare License Check is compiled from public records, not from who paid to be listed.

We read the CDSS Community Care Licensing child care centers file on CHHS Open Data (snapshot dated 25 May 2025) and keep centers whose status is Licensed or On probation. Closed, inactive and pending records are left out. Family child care homes are a different file and are not included.

Licensed centers get the Licensed (CDSS) badge. Centers on probation are listed with the status exactly as the state recorded it and carry no badge. We do not interpret or comment on it. This file has no inspection data; each profile links to the state's Care Facility Search, where reports are posted.

Because the file is a snapshot, a center may have closed or changed status since. We show the data date on every profile and link to the state record. We show administrator names from the file but never email addresses.

Order within a city: longest-licensed first, then alphabetical. Featured listings appear in a separate, labelled box and never change that order.

What a badge means

Licensed (CDSS): the CDSS Community Care Licensing open-data file lists the center with a status of licensed. Centers shown as on probation carry the status as the state recorded it, with no badge. The file is a snapshot, so check the state record for current status. We only publish positive matches. A listing without a badge is not an accusation — most gaps are name variations between registries.

Freshness

Data was last refreshed on 2026-10-02. The state updates its file periodically; we re-load it when a newer file is published.
